Holidays in Wales are becoming increasingly popular, but don’t just take our word for it- Lonely Planet has also named North Wales as one of the top regions to visit in 2017 (The only part of the UK to place!). With mountains, lakes, coasts and castles it’s not hard to see why, and campervan hire is one of the best ways to see it all!

2017 marked the year of legends in Wales which rightfully captures the country’s historic storytelling traditions. Along with those traditions, you’ll find castles and coasts, mountains and lakes, with no shortage of amazing views.  Away from the mountains, along the coast offers up your pick of solitary lighthouses, pretty harbours and picturesque cliffs sculpted by waves. There is something for everyone here, whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat, a family holiday, an outdoor adventure or a relaxing escape.

Wales may be small but it offers big views and with so much to see, you’ll struggle to leave enough time to tour this amazing country.

On your campervan trip, make sure to plan your visit to one of the many castles dotted across the land. With over 600 of the incredible structures throughout the country you’ll never be too far away from one!

For a Wales road trip, here are our travel suggestions:

1) Snowdonia (North Wales)– Snowdonia is the UK’s 3rd largest National Park with over 823 square miles, 15 mountains scaling 3000ft (Including Mount Snowden, Wales and England’s largest mountain) and over 1,947 miles of public footpaths. It’s not hard to see why this is one of Wales most visited areas and amazing for campervan travel.

2) Skomer Island– An Island off the coast of Pembrokeshire that is home to all kinds seabirds which makes this area truly extraordinary. You’ll need to park up your campervan for the day in one of the many campsites nearby, hop on the boat and treat yourself to constant views of puffins interacting and burrowing while other birds socialise, spar or potter about.

3) Borth Sands, Ceredigion (West Wales)– Is a blue flag beach with a fabulous three mile long expanse of golden sand. It is Situated near the remains of a 4,000-year-old forest, which was preserved by the nearby peat bog. At low tide, the stumps are exposed like strange sculptures.

4) Pembrokeshire (South West Wales)– With awards and accolades for the quality of its coastline, Pembrokeshire is a haven for swimmers, beach goers, wildlife-spotters, walking enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers.

5) Dinefwr Park and Castle (South Wales)– Situated upon majestic hill top locations you’ll find the site of  the princes of Deheubarth. Steeped in history dating from before even 119,7 the site is open all year round and gives a fascinating insight into Welsh history through the ages.

6) Caerphilly Castle (South Wales)– One of greatest surviving castles in the Western world and the second largest medieval castle in Britain. It has massive gatehouses and water features surrounding it, making it one of the great historic defensive structures.

7) Brecon Beakens National Park (South Wales)– Given the title of International Dark Sky Reserve for its “incredible” night time skies. Here combines mountains and moorland, standing stones and castles plus lively waterfalls and vibrant communities. Beacons National Park has masses to offer including its long and colourful history and a rich and varied mythology and culture.

8) Road trips- Wales is a fantastic country for a road trip and in your camper, there is something to see around every corner! Along the way, you’ll find an abundance of history and places to eat, try the road from Snowdonia to Llandudno following  sweeping valleys, enormous mountains, jagged peaks, old stone walls. Alternatively Chepstow to Symonds Yat follows the border of England and Wales where you will discover castles, pass rivers and drive through quaint villages and hamlets dotted across the astonishing landscape.
