From magical sights including Buxton and Bakewell, this 6-day itinerary is the perfect combination of relaxation and exploration including must-see sights, off-the-beaten-track adventures, family activities, romantic walks, and more.

Day details

Day 1: London - Bakewell

After collecting your chosen campervan or motorhome from the Bunk Campers London depot, start your journey towards Bakewell, a small market town in the Peak District.

Explore the charming market town situated on the banks of the river Wye. Bakewell is the largest town in the Peak District National Park area. With stone building, medieval bridges and peaceful coutyards, Bakewell town attracts art enthusiasts and sightseers from across the UK and beyond. After an afternoon spent in Bakewell town will leave you feel.

When in Bakewell, make sure to taste the famous Bakewell pudding. This can be done at a variety of shops in the town. For the full immersive experience you might want to visit The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, and step into the history of the town’s famous pudding. Resereved with it’s original wooden beams and brickwood, the original Bakewell pudding shop is the perfect setting to taste the delicacy.

Walk along the River Wye, the fourth-longest river in the UK, and admire the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Renowned as one of the most beautiful areas of Britain, the River Wye has inspired artists, philosophers, and poets from the early eighteenth century. This treasured river flows through mountains, woodlands, rolling fields, and valleys.

Take a short drive to Chatsworth Estate, and visit the magnificent grounds famous for its rich history, modern waterworks and sculptures. Chatsworth house is home to the Devonshire family, and has been passed down through 16 generations. With a Victorian rock garden and maze, you can enjoy a fun day exploring everything Chatsworth house offers.

Spend the night relaxing at a campsite of your choice. Below, we have included details of the lovely Bakewell Camping and Caravanning Site. Park up for the night at this campsite and enjoy a home-cooked meal followed by a relaxing evening.

    The famous Backwell Pudding dates back to 1860. At this time, a cook at the Rutland Arms hotel and pub, was baking a jam tart. At one point, the recipe became complicated and the cook, accidentally, turned out to create one of the most loved pudding dishes in Bakewell.

Activities & Things To Do

Day 2: Hope Valley

Drive towards Hope Valley, one of the most-loved areas of the Peak District National Park.

Explore the  picturesque village of Castleton siutated on the border of  the northern gritstone ‘Dark Peak’, and the southern limestone ‘ White Peak’.  The village is popular for its caves, history and castles. The highlights of Castleton include the anicent Peveril Castle Ruins and the Blue John Cavern. 

Located close to Castleton, you will find Mam Tor, a 517 m hill. Man Tor translates to “Mother Hill.” This circular walk is a stone surfaced path right from the car park to the top of Mam Tor. Upon reaching the peak, you will be rewarded with one of the most dramatic views in the whole Peak District area. The walk takes approximately 2 hours and requires a moderate level of physical activity with some steep climbs.

Take a drive to the winding Winnats Pass road, one of the most photographed roads in the UK.

You might want to visit the largest village in Hope Valley, Hathersage. Enjoy lunch or dinner in a local cafe/ resturant. The village has literary connections to Charlotte Bronte. It is believed that Bronte visited Hathersage before writing Jane Eyre, and the village inspired the destinations described in her novel. Get ready to become inspired like many, many people before.

    This campsite is often referred to as a ‘Derbyshire gem.’ Situated in a perfect location, you will have access to all the main attractions while also having privacy and peace. The campsite is located two miles from the Monsal Head Viaduct and the Monsal Trail.

  • Top Tips

    The skyline at Mam Tor is so spectacular it can be seen from amost all points across the Hope Valley area. From the viewpoint at the top of the climb, you can see north over to Edale Valley and the Derwent Moors.

Day 3: Buxton

On day 3, start your drive towards Buxton.

This historic spa town, is filled with beautiful Pavilion Gardens.

Why not drive to Poole’s Cavern and Buxton Country Park and enjoy a guided tour of the spectacular cave system and the surrounding parkland.

For an evening activity, why not head to The Buxton Opera House and enjoying an evening of music, relaxing and unwinding.

    Enjoy an evening relaxation at a campsite located just beside Alton Towers Resort. The Peak District is located right on the doorstep of the campsite.

    Buxton is home to natural thermal springs and elegant settings dating back to the Roman age. Buxton attracts visitors for it’s ‘healing’spa waters, which you must try out when you come here.

    Enjoy both country and town life in Buxton. This town has everything from tours & attractions, to a lively arts scene, and a vibrant nightlife. You might want to visit St Anne’s Well or the Buxton Crescent Heritage Experience.

Day 4: Monyash

On day 4, the adventure begins to the lovely village of Monyash.

This is sure to be a scenic route, so why not pack a picnic and enjoy as you stop off at settings that you find pretty.

Monyash is filled with pretty stone cottages and  located in the White Peak, surrounded by rolling fields and hills.

You might want to visit the Fere Mere Pond, in the centre of town. This is one of the mosst picturesque features on your trip!

Head toward Whim Farm Camping and Caravanning Site, freshen up in your motorhome and spend time relaxing in your motorhome.

    Monyash is filled with stunning walks and footpaths across the White Peak landscape. This area is a haven for cyclists, horse riders and walkers. The welcoming and thriving community as a special layer to this fabulous district.

    Get your thrills at Derbyshire Abseiling and make some unique memories in the Peak District National Park. You might also want to visit the Church Inn, Gritstone adventure activities and if you want to hire a bike why not try out the Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire.

Day 5: Ashbourne

Drive towards the High Peak Trail and get ready for a day of adventure and fun. Go for a scenic walk along the disused railway line and embrace stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Visit the National Stone Centre and learn about the geology of the Peak District.

You might want to stop at the town of Ashbourne which is known as the gateway to the Peak District. Enjoy the sights of Ashbourne, it’s beautiful architecture and independent shops and cafes.

Ashbourne is a town steeped in history, so make sure to check out the magnificent St Oswald’s Church. Check out the Old Grammar School which was founded in 1585.

After this full day of exploring, head back to your new accommodation located at Brook Farm Campsite

    Brook Farm campsite is situated in the village of Long Sutton. The campsite is surrounded by great walking and cycling routes, perfect for morning adventures. A short distance away you can join the  wildlife ranging from Swans, Ducks, Rabbits, dogs and even pigs. The village shop and pub are located a short distance away.
