Derry / Londonderry is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland, as well as the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. Derry / Londonderry may not be as popular a tourist destination as Belfast or the Giant’s Causeway but it should not be overlooked on your Northern Ireland road trip.
Derry is rich in culture, history, charm and craic! There is a reason that it was named the first UK City of Culture in 2013. Experiencing a lot of great publicity off the back of BBC’s hit show “Derry Girls”, the city is getting the credit it deserves.
How “The Walled City” got its name! Built in the 1600s as a defence for settlers from England and Scotland., the walls are the largest ancient monument in state care.
The Guildhall is where elected members of Derry City Council meet, and is also one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks built in 1890.

Take the Beer Masterclass, a 1.5-hour interactive experience, which takes you through the extraordinary 9,000-year-old story of brewing. Also taste 10 beers, that are paired with locally produced artisanal snacks.
From the top of the Tower Museum that you’ll get access to the only open-air viewing facility in Derry City. There are also some great exhibitions inside about the Story of Derry and an Armada Shipwreck that sank off the Donegal Coast.

After seeing the city from the ground, now it’s time to see it from the water. This 2-hour tour takes you on a stand-up paddleboard out onto the River Foyle. Take the tour during the day or at night for a unique experience.
Taking you to see some of the show’s most iconic filming locations. Look out for the Guildhall, Bishop’s Gate on the historic City Walls and the Bogside shops – including Dennis’s Wee Shop!
