England
When it comes to family holiday ideas in England, you will never be short of choices. With a wide range of activities and destinations to choose from, we are here to help you break down the best family holiday ideas and plan the perfect 2024 trip.
The Lake District is packed with fun adventures the whole family will love. Explore the Lake District Wildlife Park packed with over 100 species of exotic animals including Zebras and Mandrills. When travelling across England, the weather can be unpredictable. So, on those rainy days why not visit the Lakes Aquarium, an award-winning attraction that hosts the UK’s largest collection of freshwater fish.
England is home to some of the best theme parks with each park offering its own unique attractions, rides, and playgrounds. Alton Towers in Stoke-on-Trent is the largest theme park in England, and arguably the best. If you visit this park in Winter, you will have the luxury of quiet lines so you can avoid crowds and make your family trip more special. For an alternative theme park, close to our London depot, you might want to visit Legoland Windsor. Legoland is split into 12 different lands for you to explore.
Wales
If you’re a regular reader of our blogs, you’ll know we are big advocates of Snowdonia National Park, in Wales. With breath-taking scenery and so many activities, you are guaranteed endless family adventures when you visit Snowdonia. So, with a total of 823 square miles across the park, you might be wondering where to start. Your family might enjoy mountain biking at Coed y Brenin. The trail includes different routes for all levels of mountain biking experience. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore Zip World Llechwedd, Europe’s largest zipping zone with more than 8km of zip lines.
Why not explore the sand dunes at Aberdovey Beach, one of Southern Snowdonia’s most attractive landmarks, followed by a hot chocolate in your campervan or motorhome in Winter, or BBQ on the beach if you’re visiting in Spring.
And, for more unique adventures, head over to King Arthur’s Labyrinthm and stay in an old Welsh slate mine. Opening again in Spring 2024, King Arthur’s Labyrinth is filled with myth and legend, and you can hear the magical stories while taking an underground boat trip. Now, imagine how cool that would be for the kids! And if being underground isn’t your thing, then the Labyrinth is part of a wider complex that has family attractions including 9 craft centre studios. So, there’s something for everyone!
Scotland
If you are yet to visit glorious Scotland and the beautiful highlands then stop what you’re doing. Scotland is a must for your family holiday in 2024. And if you have visited Scotland before, then you will understand us when we say that Scotland has majestic beauty. With new family adventures opened every year, there are always new unique places to visit.
Did you know Scotland was recently listed in National Geographic’s 25 best places to visit in 2024? That only makes it more of a reason to visit on your 2024 family holiday. National Geographic has acknowledged and celebrated how the Scottish highlands are undergoing a return to native flora and you can see the work in action as you travel around the Scottish Highlands in your campervan hire.
To embrace Scottish nature, and family-filled adventures visit the Abriachan Trials. The parks and playgrounds make for the perfect adventure, with a 5.5-mile walk through the woodlands, picnic tables for a lunch stop, and a range of exciting trial maps to keep all the family, quite literally, on their toes.
Ireland
County Wicklow, in Ireland, is a true Irish gem. Also known by many as the ‘garden of Ireland’, County Wicklow, is located south of Dublin, just 1 hour 45 minutes from our Bunk Campers Dublin depot. The whole county measures just 33 miles by 20 miles, making it the perfect travel road trip for your 2024 family holiday.
Get lost in Greenan Maze, with all the family. This attraction consists of two mazes, a large Celtic design maze, and a smaller open Solstice maze. The maze is located beside a site farm, where you can meet farm animals and walk fairy trails. This adventure is just $30 for a family of four, making it both a fun and affordable adventure.
Wicklow is never short of family-filled adventures, and we especially love the Clara Lara Fun Park. Packed with activities from assault courses to zip lines, rowing boats, and Ireland’s longest water slide, Clara Lara is the best place to visit with your family in 2024.
Northern Ireland
If you’re visiting Northern Ireland, our handy Belfast depot allows you to start your trip with complete ease and comfort. Located just 7 miles from the city centre and 25 minutes from Belfast City Airport, you can explore the entire ‘wee’ country from your Bunk Camper. So where should you start your family adventure?
Start in Belfast and experience the new River Lagan Hydrobikes. Ride down the lagan and overlook the Waterfront Hall and Belfast City Hall. From Belfast, you can head to The Gobbins, in Antrim, one of Northern Ireland’s most exhilarating attractions. Situated just along the Causeway Coastal Route, the Gobbins is a spectacular scenic site making it the perfect location for a family photo.
Another top attraction is Todd’s leap activity centre. Todd’s has a range of activities to suit the whole family including climbing walls and archery. As Northern Ireland, is a small ‘wee country’ you can travel the entirety in approximately 4 days, but we recommend 7-9 days to fully embrace and appreciate everything Northern Ireland has to offer.
