Top 5 Unmissable Northern Ireland Destinations for your 2023 road trip
As we enter the summer months, you may be thinking of the places you want to visit and tick off your bucket list on a road trip with motorhome hire. Northern Ireland is packed with outstanding natural beauty, a rich history, and world-renowned landmarks.
With so many places to visit, and with limited time, we have condensed a list of unmissable Northern Ireland destinations not to miss this year:
1. Titanic Exhibition Centre – Belfast
Located in Titanic Quarter, beside the Titanic Slipways, at the very place where Titanic was designed, built and launched, the Titanic Exhibition Centre brings the story to life from the conception of the ship, through to the construction, launch, maiden voyage and the ships place in history.
There is plenty of parking nearby so it’s a great place to park your motorhome hire and learn all about the Titanic. This is also located just 25 minutes from our Belfast Depot, making this a quick first stop on your road trip.
2. Giants Causeway
No trip to Northern Ireland would be complete without stopping off at the Giants Causeway, a unique natural wonder of the world that isn’t to be missed! The site is managed by the National Trust, so you just need to pay a small fee to access the causeway – but your money is reinvested in keeping this landmark fabulous. The visitor centre is excellent and super for a cuppa too.
3. The North Coast
Since you’re already on the North Coast after visiting the Giant’s Causeway, you have to stop at some more unmissable destinations; including Portrush, Dunluce Castle, Whiterocks Beach, Carrick a Rede rope bridge, Mussenden Temple and Bushmills Distillery where Bushmills whiskey is made.
These destinations are all within a few miles of each other along the North Coast of Northern Ireland and are some of the most beautiful spots for any bucket list road trip. Take in the breathtaking views from Mussenden Temple and Carrick a Rede rope bridge before heading into Portrush for a spot of lunch by the seaside before learning all about how Bushmills Distillery make their whiskey.
4. Slieve Donard Mountain
Climb the highest peak in Northern Ireland, located in Newcastle, County Down. The views from the summit on a good day are incredible. You can see as far as the Isle of Man, Donegal, Wales and even Scotland! Not to mention the glorious long stretch of Newcastle Beach (that you can venture into after for a well-deserved pint!).
The Glen River runs along the main trail up Slieve Donard. If you are brave enough, this is a popular spot to have a dip in the water to cool off. Be warned though, it’s not very warm…
5. Lough Erne
Lough Erne is two connected lakes located in the South West of Northern Ireland. This beautiful area of natural beauty.
Enjoy the great outdoors here with plenty of activities to do, including angling, waterskiing, rowing and wakeboarding being some of the most popular down here. Or if these aren’t your thing, Lough Erne is the perfect spot to lose yourself on a long walk by the water.
